MEASUREMENTS

CAM PROFILE measurement

One way or another, most projects start with a history so usually analysis of existing parts is the starting point. This counts for existing cam profiles as well: OEM cam profiles are accurately verified for fast road applications, historic engines get their original (competition) camshafts replaced by modern designs, and competition engines need continuous development in the never ending search for better performance.

At Cat Cams, we have all equipment and software ready to scrutinize your current camshafts, and provide you with accurate lift-per-degree specs along with major design data. Our measurement setup is large enough to fit a camshaft between centers while it is still in the cylinder head, so we can exactly measure the valve motion in relation to the camshaft rotation.

VALVE TRAIN GEOMETRY measurement

Whether a new design of a valve motion needs to be converted to a cam lobe shape, or a valve motion needs to be reverse engineered from an existing cam lobe shape, accurate data of the rocker arm system is required. Over the years, valve train geometries for a vast range of engines have been scrutinized on the coordinate measurement machine (CMM) at Cat Cams , so for most applications all required geometrical data is readily available.
For new OEM cylinder heads or custom competition rocker arm systems, our CMM is ready to reveal all required data.
